Groups of the WCL

Newcomers

New to Weston or just new to the League, the Newcomers Group was established to provide social opportunities for a new generation of WCL members. Newcomers can look forward to adult and family events throughout the year.  Members are able to participate in any and all programs offered by the Newcomers group as well as events sponsored by the Women’s Community League.

Membership
Initial membership is open to those who are new members of the WCL. After joining, members can continue in Newcomers for up to four years.

The dues to join the Women’s Community League of Weston are $40 per year.  There are no separate dues to join the Newcomers group.  All members receive a directory of members that is distributed at the beginning of each year, as well as a monthly WCL newsletter with a calendar of upcoming events.

Garden Club

The Community League Garden Club was formed to satisfy those with an interest in gardening and is open to all members of the WCL. Horticultural expertise is not a prerequisite for membership, only a willingness to participate. Programs include lectures and demonstrations on gardening subjects — both outdoors and in — day trips, workshops on flower arranging and holiday greens.

Garden Club meetings are generally held on the second or third Thursday of each month, in the morning, from September through May. This year’s programs will consist of demonstrations and lectures on a wide range of topics, which will be announced in June. Floral design workshops will be held at least twice for hands-on learning. Each April, all the garden clubs in Weston gather for a joint meeting at First Parish Church.

The Garden Club is affiliated with 200 other garden clubs in the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts and also belongs to the National Garden Clubs. Three of its past club presidents have also served as president of the Federation, and several members serve on the state board.

Membership
To join the Garden Club, it is necessary to join the Women’s Community League of Weston as well.  The dues to join the Women’s Community League are $40 per year.  To also join the Garden Club, no additional dues are required. All members receive a directory of WCL members that is distributed at the beginning of each year, as well as a monthly WCL newsletter with a calendar of upcoming events.
