The Community League Garden Club welcomes those with an interest in gardening; expertise not required! Programs include lectures and demonstrations on gardening subjects both outdoors and in, day trips, workshops on flower arranging and holiday greens.

Community projects are an important component of garden club activities. We planted and maintain the gardens at the Josiah Smith Tavern and Barn and the Fiske Memorial. With the other two Weston garden clubs we originally planted and periodically refurbish Case Park. Our newest project is the Ash Street traffic island, for which we have received a grant from the National Garden Clubs. The initial planting was a Red Maple tree donated and planted by Hartney Greymont,Inc.

We are affiliated with 200 other garden clubs in the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts and also belong to the National Garden Clubs. Three of our past club presidents have also served as president of the Federation, and several members serve on the state board.

The Community League Garden Club meets on the third Thursday of the month September through May. Any Community League member is welcome to join; dues are $28 which includes a subscription to the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts Newsletter. The Community League Garden Club was founded in 1954 by members of the League, as the Garden Interest Group, to provide an inclusive club in response to burgeoning community interest in all aspects of gardening. Membership has been unlimited since its founding. Dues were originally $2, and a plant sale the first year netted $100 for the Community League Scholarship Fund. Fund-raising activities over the years have included bazaars, a house tour, a flower show, plant sales and bake sales.

Civic projects, most of which received awards from the Federation, include landscaping the South Side Fire Station, the entrance to Memorial Pool and, with the other garden clubs in town, the Police Station on Route 20.
